Regarding the Sierras and its beauty, John Muir may have said it best: “All the world lies warm in one heart, yet the Sierra seems to get more light than other mountains. The weather is mostly sunshine embellished with magnificent storms, and nearly everything shines from base to summit - the rocks, streams, lakes, glaciers, irised falls, and the forests of silver fir and silver pine.” Exploring Tahoe by day is exhilarating – whether you’re out hiking, biking or paddling along Lake Tahoe or Donner Lake – but a full moon kayak tour tops our list of summer events, if you’re craving a serene experience under the stars when the world has quieted.
Escape the summer crowds and join a small group with Tahoe Adventure Company for their coveted Full Moon Kayak Tours on Lake Tahoe. One of the best ways to experience Tahoe’s magnificent beauty is to see it from the water – lapping along with other stargazers from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., as the moon rises over Lake Tahoe, illuminating its 22 miles of pristine water.
For this 1.5-mile journey, you’ll paddle for approximately two hours, topped off with hot beverages and snacks and more stargazing on the beach. The trip includes everything you’ll need for the evening (be sure to wear warm clothing): kayak, paddle, life jacket rental, knowledgeable guides, instruction, natural and human history, astronomy discussions, permit fees, hot drinks and snacks.
